Province for its Starch products; not only
because of its high yield and quality of starches, but also its
invention and development in the County.
There is a Bawang (Literally overlord) Mountian in
Xiawa
Village which was named after Xiang Yu, the overlord of
West Chu in the late Qin Dynasty, when he
stationed his troops there. Later the mountain became well known. In the
late Ming Dynasty, a man named Du Lun found that the mountain was
suitable for growing beans, peas, and sweet potatoes. He plowed a field
on the mountain and built the first mill there. With starches produced
there, he made flat noodles by hand, and carried the goods to sell in
Sheqi
Town (
Now
Sheqi
County). From then on, Sheqi starch products became more and more famous.
