Yuzhuqingtian-Jade Pillar Supporting the Sky
On a 30-meter-high cliff, one can see four big Chinese characters
-"Yu Zhu Qing Tian" (Jade Pillar Supporting the Sky) vertically
inscribed. They were the work of Mr. Yang Bi who was the first
“Liuguan” official sent by the central government to govern
Lijiang in Yongzheng Period of the Qing Dynasty (A "Liuguan”
official usually belonged to the Han Nationality. In old times,
“Liuguan” officials, different from minority chieftains, were
specially nominated and sent by the central government to areas
inhabited by ethnic minorities). On the lower left, there are
another four characters-“Yu Bi Jin Chuan” (Jade Stone and Golden
River) horizontally inscribed on the cliff in 1725 by Mr. Nie Rui
who was the assistant of the executive of Lijiang County in the
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
