The wine isn’t expensive and only costs three to five Yuan per bottle. However, it can be as good as other famous wines.

Zhenping Yellow Millet Wine is a kind of low alcohol grade beverage fermented with high-quality glutinous rice and sorghum as its raw material, and wheat as its catalyst. The technical process includes soaking, steaming, fermenting, filtering, and stocking. It is named after its crystal yellow color. The wine is sweet, tasty, and fragrant with a good aftertaste. For a long time, it has been famous all around the world for its special local flavor.

With a history of more than 5,000 years, the wine originated in the New Stone Age, and flourished during the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. According to historical documents, Zhenping is located to the west of Wan (west of Nanyang), belonging to Nanyang County in the Qin Dynasty. Historical books put it that there were many wine workshops in the west of Wan during the Qin and Han Dynasties. It is said that Liu Xiu, a Han Dynasty emperor, took the wine as tribute. Thus, it became famous and valuable from then on. Another story put it this way that Zhang Zhongjing, a famous Han Dynasty doctor, who was born in Zhenping, expounded on the medicinal value of the yellow wine in his famous medicine books Shang Han ( On Cold) and Cooking Herbal Medicine Soup.
