Xizhuang Station On The Yunnan-Viet Nam Railway

Xizhuang Station On The Yunnan-Viet Nam Railway

Xizhuang Station wasn't established until the coming of the increasing
transport volume on the Yunnan-Viet Nam Railway.
During the archeological survey campaign conducted across Kunming in 2002,
the former site of Xizhuang Station emerged. Taking into consideration
of the significance of the Yunnan-Viet Nam Railway (also called
Dian-Yue Railway) on Yunnan's modern history, Xizhuang Station-the unique
surviving of its kind in the vicinity of Kunming, was listed as a
historical and cultural site of Guandu District in 2003. It stands
sharply contrasting with the concrete world nearby.
The surviving Xizhuang Station is a bungalow of 150 square meters.
Its facades and gables walls are made from grey bricks. During the
renovations, some lacing bars were found as beams on the doors and
windows of the building. These bars that were ironed with English
letters were further identified by expertise as rails of the Will
Company (British) and the Thomas Company (French).
There housed in the exhibition hall a collection of 40 items including
18 layout design charts. (Picture from kunming.cn)
