Lijiang, A World Cultural Heritage Site
Lijiang is located in the center of Three Parallel Rivers, a world natural
heritage by UNESCO. Lijiang is especially noted for Naxi’s Culture whose
Dongba hieroglyphic words are the only existing of its kind in the world.
Alongside the attractive Lugu Lake, the matrilineal society of Mosuo
people is unique and the custom of “walking marriage” is mysterious to
the outside world. Since 1997 when Lijiang Old Town was listed as a
world cultural heritage site by UNESCO, Lijiang has enjoyed an increasingly
broad fame.
Main
scenic spots include Lijiang Old Town, the Jade Dragon Snow Mt.,
the First Bend of Yangtze River, the Tiger-Leaping Gorge, Lugu Lake,
Danxia (Reddish Sandstones) of Laojun Mt., Baisha Frescoes, the Black
Dragon Pool, Suhe Old Town and Lashi Lake etc.
