The Old Street Of Weixin
Houses in Weixin Old Street (Zhaotong
Municipality) are all constructed
with wood. The prosperity of the Old Street in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)
could be sensed. Today, the street serves as a marketplace, but is
divided into a “slum” and an “affluent area”. In the “slum”, the
leaning wood houses are low, old and somewhat shabby; there are grocery
stores with beautiful pottery jugs, antiques and iron wares for sale.
The “affluent area” features mainly with French-style architectures,
delicate though passe; elegant arched doors and windows have already
been overtaken by various bill boards; most buildings have become
shops of daily necessities. Old as it is, the street appears to be a
hustle and bustle world on weekends and market days.
