DATE:08-06-2011
"Go to Market" has always been a social custom in Chenzhou from ancient times. Since the Ming Dynasty, people in Chenzhou have set Xuchang (spot markets) at interjunctions of water and land ways and around towns to barter commodities. The trading dates may be the “first, fourth and seventh” days, or the “second, fifth and eighth” days or the “third, sixth and ninth” days every month. The trading dates are fixed according to the custom, and they have been handed down up to the present. Most famous Xuchang markets in South Hunan area and even in China are as follows: Tangcun Town Xuchang in Jiahe County, Matian Town Xuchang in Yongxing County and Liangtian Town Xuchang in Suxian District.
