Zhangjiajie Yang Opera (Zhangjiajie)

DATE:08-06-2011
Zhangjiajie Yangxi Drama has a long history and it stretches over westerns parts of both Hunan Province and Hubei Province. Its biggest characteristic is the combination of true sound and falsetto. The first half of a sentence is sung in the singer’s normal voice, and the second half is sung at a voice eight pitches higher, and people call it as “hanging a cucurbit with a gold thread”, and it is very difficult. All over China, only the Yangxi in Zhangjiajie is sung in this way. The special singing of “hanging a cucurbit with a gold thread” is praised by specialists as “a unique skill and wonderful art in Hunan Province”, and it can compare beauty with Huangmei Opera.
