Located in Baimaojian, a place to the south of Xinxian County,
it is among the first group of cemeteries on county level. Built in
1957, it covers an area of 22 hectares. The main sights include the
gate, an embossment entitled Liaoyuan (Spreading), the Memorial Tower, the Memorial Hall, the Exhibition Room, the Square of Heroes and Martyrs, Liufang Garden,
Hongxing Pavilion and the Monument to the Revolutionary Martyrs. The
List of Martyrs keeps the names of 130,000 soldiers. The revolutionary
history of E-Yu-Wan Base and brave stories of 55 martyrs are recorded
here. More than 1,000 relics are collected. Generals and martyrs like Wu
Huanxian, the commander of the 25th Army Corps, Liu Mingbang, Cheng Tan were buried in the cemetery.
The Main Gate The gate adopts a modern and imposing structure. On the gate is inscribed the name of the cemetery written by Li Xiannian, the former president. The Liaoyuan Embossment Wall
The
embossment includes ten pictures illustrating ten historical scenes.
The torch symbolizes the revolutionary fire. The three red flags stand
for three Red Army forces, the 4th Front Army, the 25th Army Corps and the 28th
Army Corps. On the right of flags are the head images of an army
soldier and the party flag, which states the nature of the Red Army and
the army principle of “The party leads the army”. Below the flags is the
former site where the branch of E-Yu-Wan of Central Committee of the
CPC was located, a symbol of the establishment of the revolutionary
government and commanding center. Down the embossment in the left corner
are a flag of the Red Guards and fighting farmers, which signifies
armed fights such as Huangma Uprising, Baisha Uprising and so on. Other
images are made to mark the civil Wars. On the upper right are the
people taking oath by raising hands, which represent the establishment
of the party organization in Xinxian County.
On the right are a series of revolutionary pioneers that embodies the
devotion of revolutionists to the great cause of communism. The image of
farmers sending sons to the army reflects people’s support of the Red
Army. The charging commanders mark the strategic change of the Red Army
against the Encirclement and Suppression. The shining medals represent
the achievements of revolutionary martyrs and people.
The Monument of Martyrs
The Monument, a pentagon structure, stands 13.1m
high. The number stands for 130,000 martyrs that sacrificed their lives
for the revolution. The northern part of the tower bears the motto
written by Zhu De, one of the leaders of the party and government,
“Eternal life to the revolutionary martyrs!” There are inscriptions of
other figures such as Xu Shiyou, Wu Zhipu, Liu Mingbang, and so on.
Square of Heroes and Martyrs
The
major sights in the square are Yingming (great fame) Wall, the Statue
of Eternal Torch and the Strategy Map of E-Yu-Wan Revolutionary Base
Area. Yingming Wall bears thousands of martyrs’ names. The statue is
made up of several revolutionary scenes and characters. On the strategy
map red areas represent the revolutionary bases. 26 ground lights stand
for 26 revolutionary locations where the governments on the county level
were established.
Liufang (eternal) Garden
The bust of Wu Huanxian, one of the founders of the base area, former commander of the 28th Army Corps was erected here. It was built in 1985 by the provincial committee and government of Henan Province in the 50th
anniversary of his sacrifice. On the pedestal was written “Gong Xun
Zhuo Zhu” (literally the distinguished achievements) by Li Xiannian, the
former president of the country. On the back of the pedestal is the
life account of the martyr. On the other two sides are the inscriptions
from senior leaders like Xu Xiangqian, Han Zihua, Han Xianchu, Guo
Shushen and so on.
