iyang Tanci - Yiyang Story-telling to the Accompaniment of Stringed Instruments (Yiyang)

Tanci is also called “Daoqing” or “Yueqin Drama”. It was introduced to Yiyang from Changsha during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing. The singing of Yiyang Tanci usually takes place in teahouses, and sometimes it is performed to add more fun on wedding ceremonies or birthday parties. Most of its subject matters are stories encouraging people to do good, and such stories are usually larded with old teaches of social order, and this phenomenon is summarized like this: the actors speak out teaching of the ancient saints while playing Yueqin in their arms.
