Sanya is located in the southern boundary of China, bordering Lingshui County in the east, Baoting County in the north, Ledong County in the west and South China Sea in the south. The area is 1919.58 sq km, among which the planning urban area is 38 sq. km. It’s 91.6km long from east to west, and 51 km wide from south to north. There are high mountains in the north of Sanya, and sea in the south. The topography gradually inclines from the north to south, forming a long and narrow polygon. The coastline within the borders is 209.1 km long, with 19 harbors. The main ports include Sanya Port, Yulin Port, Nanshan Port, Tielu Port and Liudao Port, etc. the main bays contain Sanya Bay, Haitang Bay, Yalong Bay, Yazhou Bay, Dadong Sea Bay, Moon Bay, etc. There are 40 big or small islands, including 10 main islands. The islands with big area are Ximaozhou Island which is 2.12 sq.km and Wuzhizhou Island, 1.05 sq.km. It’s an important port for foreign trade and one of the gateways to the world. It’s located in the subtropics and is the most beautiful tourist area of Hainan. A batch of scenic spots of Sanya has broken many world records and China records, and obtained various titles of top of the world and top of China. Sanya is a good place for holiday.
 
City Information
Best Travel Season: September to the next April is the best time to travel in Sanya.

Destination Climate: Sanya is the tropical monsoon, with no big change of four seasons, long summer without winter, high temperature, rainy, clear difference between dry season and wet season. Its sunshine duration is long, featuring 1900-2100 hours of annual sunshine; sufficient rain, annual precipitation 1960-2400mm; Temperature distribution: average annual temperature 23.1℃-23.6℃, average temperature 27-29℃ in hottest month July, and 16-18℃ in the coldest month January. Sunlight is sufficient all year round with rich heat and few natural disasters, typhoon mainly concentrated in July-September, with small impact to this county.

Destination Notes: You’d better bring the clothes able to absorb sweat, easy to dry and with air permeability. Bring back bag with good air permeability. Don’t take too much clothes. You can wash the clothes at night, and it will dry the next day. Don’t forget to take swimming clothes, cap, glasses, bath towel and slipper with you when you go swimming. Some hotels will provide bath towel and slipper, which is very convenient. Pay attention to your personal belongings and to the people around you for your own safety. Don’t show to the public your valued belongings since every city has different kinds of people with bad intention.
 
Travel Tips
Season Features: It is not muggy and hot during the summer of Sanya due to that Sanya is surrounded by the sea and the moist sea wind reduces the heat of sunshine, while it’s very hot during the summer of many inland cities, where people feel like that they live in the steamer. It’s warm and pleasant in fall and winter of Sanya, and winter is the best season for travel along the seashore. When it’s very cold in other places of the world in winter, you can still wander on the sunshiny beach and among the warm sea water with summer clothes and sand shoes in Sanya.

Travel Taboo: Do not believe the driver of the taxi or the three-wheel vehicle when you want to eat seafood, or you will be cheated to pay more money. And don’t go to Chunyuan Plaza where the seafood is very expensive and with short weight. Go to the first market to buy fruits. No matter the peddlers on the beach are adults or children, don’t query the price or talk with them if you don’t want to buy the goods, or else you will be fastened by them if you don’t buy goods.

Special Information: Yangjiaoling crystal mine is the famous crystal production base of China and is also one of the famous crystal mines all over the world. There are various kinds of fruits, like longan, areca, pomegranate, lyche, pineapple, mango, banana, and sugar cane, etc. Also there are some special kinds of food, like Malay prawn, Tilapia and Tunchang farmhouse pig, etc.
