Introduction of Hainan Haikou

Haikou, also named “Coconut City”, is the capital and political, economic, cultural, trade and communication centre of Hainan- the biggest Special Economic Zone in China. The area of Haikou is 2304 sqm, with a population of more than 1.7 million. Its coastline from east to west reaches 131 km long and the annual average temperature is 23.8 ℃.

The climate of Haikou is pleasant. It’s summer most of the time, and no winter. The indexes of air, water quality, ecology rank at the top of China, and the urban green coverage reaches 42%. Traffic Information

 Airline: Haikou Meilan Airport is located in Meilan Town of Jiongshan City, 25 km away from Haikou, with nonstop domestic and international air lines. It only takes 30 minutes from the airport to the downtown. The airport bus of the airline company runs every 30 minutes from 6:00 am to the time of last flight at night. The price is 15 RMB/person. You can take the free bus of China Southern Airlines in front of civil aviation guesthouse at Haixiu Road of Haikou, and take the free bus of Hainan Airlines at the former airport terminal building in the downtown. And you can also take No.41 or No.21 bus to the centre of downtown, the price is 5 RMB/person.

Shipping: There are two ports in Haikou, namely Xingang Port and Xiuying Port. More than 40 passenger ships sail to inland areas along the coast and Hongkong, etc. In Xingang Port, the ships are mainly to Zhanjiang Port and Hai’an. And in Xiuying Port, the shipping lines are to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai’an, Shekou, Beihai and Hongkong. Road: The road traffic of Hainan is very convenient. There is east-line 225 national highway, mid-line 224 national highway, west-line 225 national highway and around-the-island freeway. Haikou east station- the largest coach terminal of Hainan is located between Haikou and Qiongshan City, where the small bus from Guomao to Fucheng passes by. The buses of this station mainly run to the counties along east line of Hainan, and there are also buses running along west line, just that the buses are old. It only takes 3 hours from Haikou to Sanya by east-line freeway, and 4 hours by west-line freeway. There is also west passenger station and south passenger station. The buses of west passenger station run to Baisha, Changjiang, Dongfang, Lingao, Ledong, Tongshen, Tunchang, etc, and the buses of south passenger station run to Chengmai, Anding, etc.

 

Travel  Tips

 Season Features: The geographic location and climate make Haikou full of sunshine and with blue sky all year round. You will feel tropical scenery in Haikou.

Travel Taboo: What to wear? The clothes people (especially for those who likes sports) wear on the inland are light, thin, clothing able to absorb sweat and easy to wash and dry. When you come to travel to the island, you must pay attention to the hot sunshine . you should take sun block lotion and  sun glasses with you and you’d best wear clothes with long sleeves before going outside or bring umbrella with you.
