Culture and Folk ArtThe local opera of Hunan enjoying long history is popular among people and is highlighted by opera field with colorful types and distinctive artistic styles.
The local opera of Hunan emerged during the late years under the reign of the Emperor Kangxi to the middle years under the reign of the Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty and reached its peak in the years under the reign of the Emperor Xianfeng. On the basis of employing local language and folk art, they absorbed the artistic achievements of the Kunshan Melody, inherited the tradition of the circulation and evolution of the Yiyang Melody, broke the legendary form of multi-qupai style opera, created the opera form of Luantan (Chinese opera melodies other than Kunshan and Yiyang melodies) featured by rhythm diversification, and gradually formed localized opera of Hunan. Nineteen local operas of Hunan including Hunan opera, flower drum opera, Qi opera, Chenhe opera, Wuling opera, Baling opera, Miao opera and Dong opera are blooming in China's opera field like 19 precious flowers.
Bath
In ancient times, it was a solemn rite that Chinese people bathed to worship and had ablution to offer sacrifices to the Heaven. Zeng dian, one of the students of Confucius and appreciated by Confucius, even regarded bath as a perfect state in life. In ancient Greece, people experienced the tension of sports and the relaxation of bath alternatively and detected extraordinary wonderfulness in human body. In the luxurious bathhouse of Ancient Rome, bath was a form by which the people of Ancient Rome enjoyed their life.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, bath can eliminate fatigue, refresh mind, smooth blood circulation and protect skin. The hot compress, foot bath, steam therapy, massage and other methods in traditional Chinese medicine are all the development of bath culture in medicine.
According to the information from relevant people, there are over 1000 registered foot bath stores or bath centers in the capital of Hunan Province - Changsha only, excluding nearly 300 scattered or small ones. You can see a foot bath store or bath center by walking for a few steps only no matter in prosperous or outlying areas, which has become a distinctive landscape of this star city (Changsha).
Singing Hall
Originated from nearly ten years ago, the singing hall culture of Hunan has become a brilliant landscape with distinctive witty skits and entertainment performances as well as first-class facilities, audio equipment and star lineup apart from song & dance, folk art and traditional programs. Tianhan Grand Theatre, singing halls, Gangdao Performing Arts Centre, Qindao Performing Arts Centre, Hunan Grand Theatre and Hunan Red Sun Performing Arts Center are all very famous.
Bar
Bar is another culture brand of Changsha following singing hall. At dusk, the "bar street" at West Jiefang Road will be lit up with crowds of people to form a bustling scene. There are bars, performing arts bars, tea houses and Western and Chinese restaurants there, being an important spot for people to spend the night in Changsha and the best choice for tourists' leisure and entertainment.
