The Yan Emperor is one of the earliest ancestors of Chinese people. According to a legend, after the death of the Yan Emperor, his coffin was loaded on a bamboo raft to move forward against waves of the Mi River, and when it reached Luyuanpo Slope, suddenly it was very cloudy, and a furious storm happened. At this moment, a golden dragon sprung to the air, and it brought the coffin into the bottom of water, and then the Yan Emperor was buried at Luyuanpo Slope in Yanling County (Yan Emperor Mausoleum County). It is said that the Dragon Head Stone (Longnaoshi Stone) in the Yan Emperor mausoleum at the Mi River’s bank is the reincarnation of the dragon’s head. Because of this legend, since the ancient time, in Yanling area there were many dragons and lions, and dragon dance and lion dance have become an indispensable part of people’s life today. On spring festivals, wedding ceremonies, funerals, birthday parties and sacrifice offering ceremonies, the people would like to perform dragon dances.
