Brocade of the Tujia Ethnic Group

In the Tujia language, "Xilan Kapu" means a kind of
Tujia brocade, of which "Xilan" means bedding, "Kapu" means flowers, so
"Xilan Kapu" means flower blanket of the Tujia people. Tujia flower
blanket is cherished by the Tujia people, and regarded as a crystal of
wisdom and skills, known as the "flower of the Tujia." In accordance
with the Tujia customs, when getting married, Tujia girls used to
produce beautiful "Xilan Kapu" on the weaving machine in the past, which
is so-called Tujia flower blanket.. It is a pure handicraft, so it
possesses a high value for collection and use, also as a national gift
to present. In 1988, when U.S. President George Bush visited China,
Premier Li Peng presented two precious gifts to Bush and his wife, one
piece of which is a Tujia brocade bag from Longshan County of Hunan
Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
