European travelers planning a trip to China can enter the country
without a visa, if they enter through the island of Hainan in the South
China Sea.
Authorities on Hainan have lifted visa requirements for travelers from 21 European nations landing on the island from Hong Kong.Travelers may then fly on to Beijing or Shanghai without a visa stamp in their passports, according to Hainan’s tourist representation, which attended the ITB tourism trade fair in Berlin.
By entering China via Hainan, travelers can save the $US45 ($A64) visa fee, according to Hainan’s tourism representative Norbert Pfefferlein.
There are conditions attached to the visa-free arrangement. Package holidaymakers must travel in groups of at least five people and depart China from Hainan.
