The Site Of The Branching of Six Yi Ethnic Tribes

The Site Of The Branching of Six Yi Ethnic Tribes

According to the Yi ethnic historical records, the Yi ethnic group once underwent a
period of deluge. After they survived, and in order to expand territories and conquer
natural disasters, the chieftain asked his six sons to lead people to migrate into
different directions; this event is referred to as the "branching of six Yi ethnic tribes"
taking place in Zhaotong in the northeast of Yunnan Province.
The "branching of six Yi ethnic tribes" resulted in great influences of the Yi people
over the southwestern part of China. And in the Yi ethnic traditional concept, the
souls of the pass-away have to return to the cradle of their ancestors, namely the
site of branching of six Yi ethnic tribes.
