Zhumadian, lying in the south of Henan Province, abundant in sesame, is well known for sesame oil of superior quality. As recorded in the Runan County Annals, written in year of the Wanli Emperor of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1608), “Sesame oil is refined from sesame seeds and smells fragrant”, from which we can see that the sesame oil made in Runan (a county in Zhumadian) had been very popular as early as in the Ming Dynasty.
