Qiyang Straw Mat
Qiyang straw mat has a long history. According to experts' research, around about AD 1400, Qiyang began to produce straw mats. The earliest written records were found in 1694's Yongzhou Prefecture Annals, which dated back more than 300 years. Qiyang straw mats boast excellent workmanship, with smooth surface, and elegant design; it has bright color, soft texture and wear resistance. In summer, when sleeping on this mat, the body will not sweat, keeping comfortably smooth. In particular, the natural aroma of the mat grass can make people feel the freshness of mountains. Qiyang straw mats have long enjoyed a good reputation, selling well throughout the country, with products exported to seven or eight countries and regions in the world.
Except for weaving and braiding, mat grass is also used as raw materials to create advanced paper. Its perennial root and white core (rush) in the stems can be used medicinally, with such effects as clearing away heat and toxic materials, diuretic, invigorating the stomach and so forth.
