Red Ibis, as the bird in severest danger of extinction in the world,
has been reputed as the Oriental Treasure or Oriental Jewel. In the
1950s it was claimed extinct in China, however, after investigation four
red ibises were discovered in Yaojiagou village, Yang County at the
south foot of Qinling Mountain in 1981, which shocked the domestic and
foreign circles of ornithology. Now China becomes the sole place in the
world with the distribution of wild red ibis.
