The Laoguanhe River, 42km away from Xixia County seat, flows through No. 311 National Highway and No. 48 Provincial Highway. As the source of the Dan River, it serves as an important water resources conservation area in the Middle Route Project of South-North Water Transfer. The river is 38km long, among which 12km can be used for drifting. The general drop of the river is 1,340m and there is a drop of over 480m in drifting sections. In total it takes around 2 hours to finish the whole drifting journey. As an exiting program in Henan Province, which is the earliest in development, longest in distance and the largest in size, Laohuanhe River drifting is reputed as “No.1 Drifting in Henan”. Along the river there are many sights such as Jiulong Shoal which features 18 minor Shoals like Lying Dragon, Dragon Chair, and so on. While enjoying drifting, splashing water is another pleasure. People tend to splash water at each other as a greeting. When it comes to the sections where currents are not so swift, you can swim in the clear river. Affected by the continental climate of the tropical monsoon zone, rainfalls mainly come from May to October. The average rainfall stands at 800mm. There are some parts as wide as 30m and others as narrow as 5m along the river. The swift current, dangerous shoals and deep and smooth lakes make the river an ideal place for drifting. Along a total of 19 drifting sections, one can enjoy himself to the heart’s content. In the scenic area, there are abundant vegetations such as ginkgoes which is called living fossil, Chinese Buckeye and so on. During the drifting, a guard will be on your side to take care of you.
