Huaihua
Huaihua is located at the southwest border of Hunan Province on the upper reaches of Yuanshui River. It is connected with Guilin of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south and the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Zhangjiajie in the north. Many historical places and cultural relics radiate out from Huaihua in this tourism area. It is also a major home of the Dong ethnic group.
Zhijiang Memorial Site
Situated at Qiliqiao in the eastern suburbs of Zhijiang County, the memorial hall is composed of a memorial archway, the Chinese-US Air Force Club, an exhibition hall in memory of the victory over Japan and the memorial stone inscriptions. This is the only group of buildings in memory of China to accept Japan’s surrender.
Ancient Trade City of Hongjiang
The ancient trade city in Hongjiang Administrative District of Huaihua features classic residential buildings south of the Yangtze River, which present a living copy of the painting Riverside Scenes at the Pure Brightness Festival. As one of the Eight New Grand Sights in Hunan, the ancient trade city has been listed as a key historical monument under state protection.
According to specialists' research, there are over 380 intact antique buildings of the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty in the ancient trade city of Hongjiang with a total area of 200,000 square meters, and these buildings include Yinzi houses,temples, armed escorts, money houses, business firms, foreign firms, work shops, stores, taverns, whorehouses, newspaper offices and divans.
Tianhou Palace (Heavenly Queen Palace)
Situated in the county town of Zhijiang, the Heavenly Queen Palace was first constructed in 1684. As the largest temple in memory of Mazu in the Chinese Mainland, it faces east and has three compounds with a theater, the main hall and side halls. The Chinese Taoist Association has designated the temple as one of the Four Greatest Taoist Sanctuaries in China.
Huangdu Dong Culture Village
The community of Dong ethnic group in Huangdu Township of Tongdao County is composed of four villages of Tou, Wei, Pan and Xin. Tourists can appreciate the bamboo houses on stilts, drum towers and sheltered bridges particular to the Dong people, and watch the songs and dances performed by villagers, taste local food and stay overnight with a Dong family.
