The leader of that branch was bestowed a land (now Nanyang of Henan Province) to establish a kingdom named Lv in the Xia Dynasty. After Kingdom Lv had been eliminated by Kingdom Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period, people of Kingdom Lv changed their surname from Jiang to Lv, which is regarded as the orthodox branch of Lv families in history. Another branch of Lv families derived from another Kingdom Lv called Eastern Lv in history, which was located in Xincai, Henan Province and was actually a derivative of Kingdom Lv in Nanyang. Many had moved to other Kingdoms long before that. Some of their descendants lived in Shaanxi Province and Gansu Province. In the Han Dynasty, some Lv families lived in Hebei, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia. At the end of Eastern Han Dynasty, some of them moved to Anhui Province to escape the wars.
