Xihua Park Of Wenshan

Xihua Park Of Wenshan

Xihua Park is located on Xihua Mountain in Kaihua Town of Wenshan
County, Wenshan Prefecture.
Looking majestic, the entire park has been built with 16 pavilions most
of which are set on 300-meter-high cliffs to make one marvel at their
wonderfulness and stereovision.
Xihua Park used to be called Sanyuan Cave. It is said to be sponsored
by a Buddhist monk surnamed "Pan" and constructed by volunteer
craftsmen in Tongzhi Period of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Undergoing several renovations, Sanyuan Cave had become a tourist
site with stony steps, pavilions and exotic plants. It was titled "San
Yuan Dong" (Sanyuan Cave) to symbolize the high expectations in
the imperial examinations in old times. (In Chinese, we call it "Lian
Zhong San Yuan" which means always coming in the first place in
the imperial examinations at three levels. When you became the
first in the county-level examination, you are honored as "Jie
Yuan"; and by analogizing, "Hui Yuan" in the provincial-level
examination and "Zhuang Yuan" in the palace examination)
It is spacious inside Sanyuan Cave and vents very well. The pavilions
outside are delicately decorated. When overlooking at the entrance
to the cave, one will be greeted by the panorama of Wenshan Basin.
The lush vegetation around the cave makes it cool enough for Sanyuan
Cave to be a summer resort.
In 1981, Sanyuan Cave was developed into "Xihua Park". On the steps,
one can see nine dragon sculptures. Locals have legend that 18 flood
dragons used to jeopardize people in Wenshan. A young boy from
the Zhuang ethnic group named "Ah Nong", living in Xihua Mountain,
bravely combated against these vicious dragons in Panlong River.
With the help of gods, Ah Nong eventually vanquished the dragons,
had them live on the river banks (9 each) and made them swear
 to help the farmers by offering limpid water to irrigate the farmlands;
so there appeared 9 pools on the river banks respectively. In particular,
those nine dragons living on the right bank came to Xihua Mountain one
after another in order to show their determination to create bliss for the
 local people.
