Nujiang, The Oriental Great Canyon

Nujiang, The Oriental Great Canyon

Being the longitudinal valley in the south-stretching part of Hengduan Ranges of
Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is adjacent to Myanmar
in its west, Tibet in its north and Diqing, Lijiang, Dali and Baoshan in its southeast.
The boundary line is as long as 450 kilometers.
Nujiang Prefecture is a place of mountains and rivers. Dulong River, Nujiang River,
and Lancang River (Mekong River) run on parallel from west to east; Dandanglika
Mountain, Gaoligong Mountain, Biluo Mountain and Yunling Ranges go from north to
south, giving birth to three valleys, deep, long and mysterious and thus dubbed as
“Nujiang Great Canyon” or “the Oriental Great Canyon”. Major scenic attractions
include Binzhongluo Village, Danxia (reddish sandstone) landform of Luoguqing,
Pianma Port, Mysterious Dulong Secret Land, Tu’er Chieftain’s Mansion, Liuku
Chieftain’s Mansion, the First Bend in Nujiang River, Gaoligong Mt., and Flower
Ridge etc.
