Nuohei, A Stony Village In Shilin County

Nuohei, A Stony Village In Shilin County

Included on the tour line of Shilin (Stone Forest)-Jiuxiang Underground Cave-A’lu Ancient Cave, Nuohei Village is 30 km from Shilin county seat or 2 km from Haiyi Town in East Shilin.
Nuohei Village nestles among mounts and lakes. It’s a world of stones, composed of roads paved with polished stones, slate houses, rocky mounts and karst lakes. Most of the residences are built from stratified stones, using thick slates as walls and thin ones as roofs. Enjoying the fame as “the most famous stony village with Karst terrains”, Nuohei has developed couple of farmhouse inns for visitors.
"Nuohei” is a word from the language of the Sani People (a branch of the Yi ethnic minority in Shilin County); it means “monkey pond”. In 2009, the 16th conference of IUAES (the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences) designated Nuohei as an outdoor inspection site.
