Zhuzhou
As the east gate of Hunan Province, it lies on the east coast of the middle and lower reaches of Xiangjiang River. On its north is Changsha and on its south is Hengyang. Its scenic spots include: Emperor Yan’s Mausoleum, Shennong Valley National Forest Park, Jiubujiang National Geopark etc.
Emperor Yan’s Mausoleum
Emperor Yan’s Mausoleum lies on Yanling Mountain in Luyuan Town, which is 15 km away to the southwest of Yanling County. In the fifth year of the reign of Emperor Song Qiande (A.D.967) in Song Dynasty, Yandi Temple was built, from then on, each dynasty continued to renovate and sacrifice the Emperor Yan’s Mausoleum. The area where Yandiling Mausoleum perches reputed as “Emperor Mountain” ever since ancient time due to its continuous mountains with verdant old trees veiled by fog, is a holy land for Chinese offspring to recall our ancestors.
Shennong Valley National Forest Park
To the east of the county town of Yanling, the Shennong Valley National Forest Park is a rare natural animal and plant gene warehouse, with the forest coverage rate of over 90 percent. The main tourist attractions in the forest park include the Pearl Curtain Waterfall, which has the most negative oxygen ions in Asia;Shennong Flying Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Hunan;and the primitive forest with an area of 100,000 mu (one mu = 1/15 ha.), the only such forest located at the confluence of East, South and Central China. Taking a tour of the Shennong Valley National Forest Park, tourists will find everything fresh and new, and get rid of fatigue at once.
Jiubujiang National Geopark
On the western side of the middle section of the Luoxiao Mountains at the place where Hunan and Jiangxi meet, this geopark boasts of a cluster of odd-shaped Karst caves, 156 in total. It is the largest cluster of Karst caves in Hunan. Now some scenic spots have been excavated, such as White Dragon Cave, Immortal Cave and Qilixia Immortal Bridge.
