Introduction of Hainan Wanning

Wanning is in the Southeast of Hainan, 112 km to Sanya in the South and 139 km to Haikou in the North. It is in the middle of the east highway of Hainan, and traffic is convenient. The city occupies 1883.3 sq km with a coastline of 109 km. The whole population is 530,000. Wanning is one of the most famous hometowns of Chinese with more than 300,000 people in 26 countries around the world.

Best Travel Season: Best time for travel: spring, summer and autumn.

Destination Climate: Wanning is of tropical monsoon climate, featuring firstly, mild climate, small temperature difference, high accumulated temperature, average annual temperature 24℃,average temperature 18.7℃ in the coldest month and 28.5℃ in the hottest month, without frost all year round, agreeable climate; secondly,　abundant rainfall, average annual precipitation about 2400mm; and thirdly, average annual sunshine duration above 1800 hours.

Destination Notes:
1. The ultraviolet radiation is strong in Hainan, so tourists need to have sunglasses, sun blocks and umbrellas to combat the sunlight. Do wear breathable clothes, and drink much water and soft drink with salt in it. If you have sunstroke, please leave the stifling environment immediately, and rest in shades. Also you can have some medicine like Shidishui.
2. Whatever you buy, including low-priced fruits, you need to bargain to get 40% to 50% off. Ask the venders to use the accurate scale off the counter to weigh the goods.
3. After you settle in a hotel room, count the stuff in the room including the towers, clothe-hangers, and ashtray, so that you don’t need to pay for anything that is not originally in the room when you check out.
4. Don’t let stranger in your room. Always see the face of the person through the hole on the door before letting him or her in.
5. Don’t call girls “Xiaojie” in Hainan, especially in places of entertainment. “Xiaojie” is the name to call escort girls. Tourists should call waitresses “Xiaomei”, and call older women “Ayi”.
6. When you are taken by the tour guide to the markets to buy crystals, pearls and turtle shells, check your impulse to go on a shopping spree. If you cannot fight your urge of shopping, at least get a bargain of 80% or 90% off.

 

Traffic Information

Airline: There’s no airport in Wanning. Tourists can fly to Haikou Meilan Airport, and take the shuttle bus to Wanning.

Train: There’s no train passing through Wanning. Tourists can take the train to Haikou Station, and take the shuttle bus to Wanning.

Road: Wanning Bus Station is on the Wanzhou Avenue. There are bus lines to Haikou, Sanya, Wuzhishan, Wenchang and other places. The bus lines have two types, fast and normal. The telephone number of Wanning Bus Station is 0898-62222256.

Bus: There are buses in the city. Fare is RMB1.

Special Transportation: “Three-legged cat”, “Caifeng vehicles”, and buses. “Three-legged cat” is a three-wheel motorcycle both for carrying people and goods. They go between villages, fares are calculated according to the distances, about RMB0.5-3. “Caifeng vehicles” are also called “Bengbeng vehicles”. They go between different districts in Wanning city, and fare is RMB1-3. The fare for long-distance travel is just a little more than RMB10. Motorcycle is just like the ordinary motorcycles we see. They can travel for a longer distance. The fare is RMB2-4. You should bargain with the rider if the distance is long. Wanning also has a lot of buses run by private companies. They will stop at a wave of the hand. The fares vary based on the distances.

The average temperature is 17.5 degrees Celsius in January, with a lowest at 4.7 degrees Celsius. The average temperature in July is 28.4 degrees Celsius, with the highest at 32.4 degrees Celsius. The annual average sunshine hours are 2137, and the sunshine rate is 45%. The average annual rainfall is 2361.3 mm. The rain season is between May and June, August and October. The dry season is between December and April of the next year. The average annual evaporation is 1872.7 mm.
