Qionghai is in the east part of Hainan Island, 86 km to Haikou, the
capital city of the province. It’s 163 km to Sanya, a city in the south
part of the island. Qionghai has a long history with advanced culture
and abundant natural resources. People here are modest, hospitable, and
open-minded. For a long time, Qionghai is claimed by investors and
tourists for her relaxing environment, good public security, balanced
eco environment, and efficient administration. Qionghai city is charming
with the world-famous Wanqian River as its axis. The Qionghai tourist
area in the east of Hainan is comprised of Wanqian River, Baishi Hill,
Guantang Hot Spring, Shadao Island, Wanqian River’s outlet to the sea,
Boao Jade Belt Beach and the Conference Center for Boao Forum for Asia.
The area is one of the key tourist areas in the province.

Best Travel Season: October to the next April is the best season to travel in Qianghai.
Destination Climate: Qionghai City is of sub-tropical
monsoon and maritime wet climate, average annual temperature 24℃,
average annual precipitation 2072mm, average annual sunshine 2155 hours,
average annual radiation 118.99 kilocalories per square centimeter,
without frost and snow all year round.
Destination Notes: August and September are the
typhoon season in Hainan, and one has to be extra careful. If you want
to swim in the sea, please stay in the periphery of protection. Each
year a number of tourists get swept away by the sea.
Traffic Information
Shipping: Boao Water City has six docks from which tourists can take the ferries to the Jade Belt Gulf.
Road: highway 223 (east Haiyu line) and east highway
of Hainan both run through Qionghai, two other provincial highways also
go through Qionghai. There are 4 entrances and exists for highways. The
traffic is very convenient in the city, with a total traffic mileage of
2100km.
Bus: Bus lines 1, 2, 8 and 9 can reach all scenery spots in the city.

Travel Tips
Season Features: Qionghai has a mixture of subtropical
monsoon climate and subtropical humid climate. The average temperature
is 24 degrees Celsius. Plants grow all through the year, and there’s no
big difference between the seasons, except that between June and
September there are typhoons and heavy rains. The peak season of tourism
for Hainan is around the Spring Festival, with lots of people surging
into the province, and the cost for tickets and services will rise
significantly. The best season for travel is November to March of the
next year, when sunshine and green plants can be found anywhere in
Hainan.
Travel Taboo: When people from the Li minority group
are brewing alcohol, and there a leaf hanging on the door, it means no
stranger is allowed inside. Don’t call girls “Xiaojie”, especially in
places of entertainment. You can call them “Xiaomei” or “Ayi”. Avoid
taking the trip alone. Be safe on the beach, and watch the kids and
elderly.
Special Information: Flat shoes and sun-proof
protections are needed in Hainan. Seafood is the first choice for food
in the coastal province, but don’t eat too much. Bring along digestive
and anti-inflammatory drugs. Hainan is famous for all kinds of fruits,
coconut, mango, betel, pineapple and jack fruit. Also don’t eat too
much.
