Located in the northeast of Hainan. Around it, Wenchang is in the east
is; Changmai and Tunchang are in the west; Qionghai is in the southeast;
and Haikou is in the north. The county government building is only 33km
away from Haikou. Dingan has an area of 1189 sqkm. It’s 68km from south
to north and 46.5km from east to west. The population is 320,000. It
has 10 towns, Xiadingcheng, Xinzhu, Longhu, Huangzhu, Leiming, Longmen,
Helong, Lingkou, Hanlin, and Fuwen. It has three state-owned farms,
Zhongrui, Nanhai and Jinjiling. There is one tropical plant institute in
Dingan. The south is higher and north is lower geographically. You can
find hills, plateaus and plains in Dingan. The hills are in the south,
with altitude over 200m. Plains are in the north, accounting for 24% of
the land of the county. Nanniu Hill’s altitude reaches 512m, the highest
point in Dingan. The main rivers of the county are Nandu River,
Longzhou River, Wencuishui, and Xuya River. It is in the tropical
monsoon climate zone, with a average annual temperature of 23.9 degrees
Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 1965.5 mm. National highways 223
and 224 go through the east and north parts of the county respectively.
The east highway goes through the east of the county. Historical sights
are Murui Mountain Revolutionary Base, Huangzhu Memorial Place of
Revolutionary Martyrs. Old architectures are Dingan Old Town, Jianglong
Tower, Residences of Wang Honghui and Zhang Yuesong. Scenic spots are
Nanli Lake, Murui Mountain, and Tropical Bird Land.

Train: Yuehai Railway has been put into use, and it can transport people and cargoes to most major cities and economic zones.
Shipping: Basuo Port is by the east side of the bay in the north. It’s in the south of the middle part of the west coast of Hainan Island. It is one of the first eight productive ports in China, with 8 berths. Six of them are 10,000-ton level berths, and the other two are 1000-ton level berths. It is a multifunctional port.
Road: The traffic is very convenient with west highway and Yuhai highway passing through the city. There are roads connecting every towns and villages. Most country roads are hardened.
Bus: Dozen bus lines for public transportation. The fare is RMb1. There are other special bus lines (public buses) to reach the suburbs.
Taxi:There more than 20 taxies in Dongfang, and 100 more private cars. Starting fare is RMB5/km.
Travel Tips
Season Features: It has a mixed tropical monsoon
climate, with long summers and no winters. There's no distintive
seasons, so you can go there anytime of the year. Relatively speaking,
the best time is from November to April of next year.
