Xiangxi Tujia-Miao Autonomous Prefecture

The Xiangxi Tujia-Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the northwestern part of Hunan is inhabited by the ethnic minority groups of Tujia, Miao, Hui, Yao, Dong and Bai. Within its boundary, there are high mountains and crisscrossed rivers. The miraculous natural scenery and colorful ethnic customs set off the charm of each other wonderfully.

The Ancient City of Fenghuang is known as the “most beautiful small city in China”, where visitors can appreciate bamboo houses propped up by wooden supports along the Tuojiang River. The tranquil surroundings in Nanhua Mountain present a beautiful and unearthly sight.

Fenghuang Ancient Town

Fenghuang Ancient Town, a famous historic and cultural city in China, is situated in the southwestern part of Xiangxi. Rewi Alley, a famous writer from New Zealand, called it the “most beautiful small city in China”.
The ancient gate towers of the city, houses on stilts and courtyards of the Ming and Qing dynasties are still in good shape. The Tuojiang River flows quietly; the local inhabitants have preserved the traditional living habits, presenting an exquisite and quiet atmosphere. Like an enchanting dream, the Fenghuang Ancient Town attracts tourists from all over the world.

Great Wall in South China

It is actually a border wall of a settlement of the Miao people. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it once ran over 190 kilometers. Two sections of the wall are still standing: one is in Liaojiaqiao Town and the other in Jixin Town. A section of 1,780 m in length at Yongxingping in Liaojiaqiao Town has been renovated for tourists to appreciate.

Qiliang Cave

The Qiliang Cave is situated in Qiliangqiao Township 5 kilometers north of the county town of Fenghuang. Tourists can take a boat tour while appreciating scenery on the shores of the river. In the 6,000-m-long cave there are five scenic spots, i.e., the Ancient Battlefield, Art Gallery, Paradise, Dragon Palace and Yingyang River.

Mengdong River

It is hidden in dense forest and high mountains in Yongshun County, Xiangxi with a total length of more than 200 kilometers. High stiffs, deep and quiet valley, clean flowing water and crossing caves come into being the special mountains and waters of Mengdong River. The aquatic sport was called by Fei Xiaotong the “No.1 Drifting in the World”.

Dehang Scenic Area

It is located in the west suburb of Jishou City of Xiangxi. Here strange mountains and stones are rising superbly, the rocks and river are bickering in the deep valley, the waterfall is hanging in the sky, the old trees are reaching the sky and the colorful flowers and grass are booming. You can also appreciate unique ethnic customs and the Xiangxi Dehang Miao village culture while you are enjoying natural scenes.
