Xi’an Forest of Steles Museum houses numerous steles which look
like a towering forest, hence its name. It has been over nine hundred
years since it was originally set up in the second year of Emperor
Zhezong of the Northern Song Dynasty (1087 AD). The museum collects
about 3000 pieces of steles from the Han Dynasty through the Qing
Dynasty, which are on display in seven halls, six epitaph corridors and a
stele pavilion. Regarding the collection of ancient Chinese steles, it
has been rated as the treasure house of arts with the longest history
and the largest quantity.
