Luoguo braised meat (the hunchbacks’ meat cooked in soy sauce)


     In 1944, at 151 Xinrong Street, Xinxiang city, a master chef named Xiong Mingyue opened a meat shop where the meat cooked in soy sauce was produced. It was famous for its selected meats and delicate cooking, as well as the pleasant flavor. As the shop does not have a name and its owner Xiong Mingyue is a hunchback, the meat cooked in soy sauce is thus named “The hunchbacks’ meat cooked in soy sauce”. To the south of Pingyuan Park, in the central section of the Jiefang Road in Xinxiang City stands a multi-storied building named Luoguoju, literally “The Hunchbacks’ Residence”, where meat cooked in soy sauce is prepared. Both the color and the taste of the meat are excellent. It tastes spiced and delicious, fleshy but not greasy, thoroughly cooked but not mushy.
