The general situation of Guyuan

 

  Guyuan City is located in southern Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, with a total area of 16,783 square kilometers. It comprises of Yuanzhou District, Xiji County, Longde County, Jingyuan County, and Pengyang County, with a population of 1.87 million, 47.8% of which are the Hui ethnic group.




  Though a hilly area, Guyuan Prefecture abounds in resources of agriculture and animal husbandry, yield a huge amount of wheat, potato, flax, buckwheat, beans and coarse grain. The 100,000 hectares devoted to potato cultivation yield over 1.2 million tons of potatoes annually. The patato starch industry has taken shape. As the biggest potato production base in China, Guyuan is capable of turning out 150,000 tons annually. The oil bearing crops, mainly flax, are grown in more than 3,000 tons of flax fiber. The buckwheat and raw oats there are non-polluted and rich in nutrients, which can be processed into green food. Since ancient times, Guyuan has been the area inhibited by multi-minority people. The livestock industry is developed in Guyuan and the house there is of good quality.













  The tourism resources in Guyuan spread all over the region, among which the Liupan Mountain scenic spot is the biggest one, and it is the main tourist area in the southern part of Ningxia. The Liupan Mountain scenic spot can be divided into 3 parts in accordance with the location: the Mount Liupan National Forest Park is taken as the central eco-tourist area of the southern part; Guyuan City is adept as the central cultural tourist area of the middle part; and Huoshizhai scenic spot as the geological cultural tourist area for the northern part.
