Three Legged Plank Race

     To the Zhuang Minority, the most entertaining festival activity is a race where participants are attached to planks of wood. There is also a dance using the same idea. All participants must keep in step and take care not to stumble or the momentum of the whole group is compromised. It is rumored in legend that during the reign of Emperor Jiajing in the Ming dynasty, Lady Wa, a heroine of the Zhuang Minority, led soldiers from Guangxi to resist Japanese invaders in Zhejiang. She effeciently trained soldiers using a method whereby three soldiers raced with their legs tied together. Later, the training method became an entertaining activity.
