Niujie Town In Yiliang(彝良)
Originally constructed in the East Han
Period (25A.D-220A.D),
Niujie Town of Yiliang County (Qujing Municipality) prospered
in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties. Niujie
is an important fortress on the passageway between Yunnan and
Sichuan provinces, and the millennium-long commercial and cultural
exchanges between the two provinces have deposited cultures of the
Shu (221-263, Sichuan) and Dian (278 B.C-115B.C, Yunnan) Kingdoms
in the town. Niujie has 5 zigzag streets, over 800 houses that had
combined the Western and Chinese architectural styles, and over
400 houses of the towns were constructed in the Ming and Qing
dynasties. In addition, the Township has well preserved 10-plus
ancestral halls and temples erected in the Qing Dynasty.
