Student organizations need more financial support
With
university students' strong wish to improve their abilities, more and
more student activities are being organized on campus, but only a few
are funded by the universities. To save students' time in finding a
sponsor and to let them focus more on activity organization, more
financial support is needed.
From talking with
students from different universities in China, it appears that most
student organizations have a public relations department. Students in
the department are forced to put a great deal of effort in looking for
sponsors outside the campus. It is a time-consuming task, and the
sponsorship affects the quality of student activities greatly.
During the 3rd
International Student Organization Exchange Camp of Wuhan University,
student leaders all around the world gathered together and shared their
experiences. Siddhant Bhatt, vice president of the IVY League Council,
said: "In Columbia University, students have their living fees as well
as donations from the alumni, and funds are distributed to various
student groups". Representatives from Ohio State University outlined the
concept that students have paid the tuition which should be spent on
them. Such funding policies have made student organizations in America
pay more attention to improving their activities in all aspects through
applying for more funds from the university.
"Chatting with student
organization leaders is fantastic. I have learned a lot from their
methods of organization," said Deng Liuyang, director of Dartmouth
College,"If they are given more power, space, and support in China, they
are able to do better."
