Banyan Tree And Pagoda Wrapped Each Other

Banyan Tree And Pagoda Wrapped Each Other

Mengwofo (Wofo, reclining Buddha) Temple is situated in Dazhai Village of Weiyuan Town, Jinggu County (Pu’er Municipality). It used to be an official temple (Guan Fo Si), consisting of a gate, a side door, two pagodas, an ordination hall, a main hall and monk dormitories. It covers 3.3 hectares. The main hall and two pagodas are facing the south. The two pagodas, over 10 meters high, were built by Chieftain Dao Hanchen.
A banyan tree grows out from the left pagoda. Its dense branches stretch out from the cracks on the pagoda while the pagoda remains unbroken. In the evening, flocks of birds can be heard singing cheerfully in the branches. Another banyan tree has overgrown in the right pagoda since Daoguang Period (1821-1850) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), thus forming the spectacle-banyan tree and pagoda wrapped each other.
