Santan Waterfall

Santan Waterfall

Santan Waterfall is located in Zhaojiadian part of Miyilu Yi Ethnic
Custom Valley, about 25 kilometers away from Dayao county seat of
Chuxiong Prefecture.
Miyilu Valley is situated in the down streams of Qingling River, a
branch of Jinsha River (Yangtze River). Thanks to the crustal movements,
faults appeared in the valley, forming three terraces with waterfalls
that have a drop difference of about 400 meters. The whole scenic area
boasts of many karst caves and has been associated with tales for centuries.
Being rugged and grotesque, the valley ranks first of its kind in Chuxiong
Yi Autonomous Prefecture. The overwhelming water of Qingling River indulges
on the three terraces to give birth to three deep pools thus the name
“Santan” (Three Pools).
