The Manor Of Longxi Clan

The Manor Of Longxi Clan

The Manor of Longxi Clan is actually the former residence of Li Youfu,
the descendent of the hereditary chieftain Li Xianzhi. The manor is
located in Yaonan Village, 36 km from Gasa Town of Xinping County.
Covering 2,800 square meters, the manor altogether has 58 rooms,
including three parts-the major building, garden and stable. The manor
is also the historical testimony of the vicissitudes of “the (Longxi)
Family Li” that began to grow up in the 33rd year (1768) of Qianlong
Period in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1368). Li Yuying, the ancestor of
the Family Li, was bestowed by the Qing court as “Yuqiwei” (equal to marquis)
due to his military exploits when entering Yunnan. His son, Li Xianzhi,
was further bestowed as “Yan Wang Tu Bang Zong” (local chieftain). And
the next generations of the Family Li remained as the chief on a hereditary
 basis.
In 1938, Li Youfu sponsored construction of the manor that took five years
to complete. The architecture style of the manor was deeply linked with the
historical background, because we can find today clearly the medieval
castle style of Europe is adopted to upgrade the defensive function of the
manor.
The Manor of Longxi Clan can be called a grand park of traditional arts
including sculptures, paintings and calligraphic works. The surviving
masterpieces have exhibited high values of either historical research or
aesthetics in Xinping County. It was listed as an important historical
and cultural site of Yunnan Province in 2003. (Picture from: ailaoshan.com)
