Wuding Lion Mountain

Wuding Lion Mountain

The Lion Mountain (Shi Zi Shan) is situated 3 kilometers west of Wuding County,
Chuxiong Prefecture. It’s about 90 kilometers away from Kunming by the secondary
highway. The Lion Mountain exhibits a vegetation coverage of 76 percent and an
annual average temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius. It’s a well-known place of
interest in Central Yunnan enjoying long spring and autumn.
Covering 166 square kilometers, the scenic place is divided into four districts
including the Mt. Lion itself, Xincun Lake, Xiangshui Valley, and the relics of
the Feng Chieftain, etc. The scenic area has been well known in Yunnan and received
tourists ever since the beginning of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Regarded as an
ideal land for taking a closer touch to the nature, it is now full of the lofty
ancient trees, towering crags, grotesque rocks, beautiful peony flowers, attractive
 landscapes and sweet springs.
The relics and the legends about Emperor Jianwen (1377-?, the nephew of Zhu Di,)
of the Ming Dynasty who shaved his own hair to become a hermit monk in the Mt.
Lion make the resort even more interesting and mysterious. The ancient Zhengxu
Temple shows features of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and the imperial palace,
teeming with monument inscriptions, poems and couplets which add much interest
 for visitors.
