The Remains Of Tacheng Iron Bridge
In the Tang Dynasty (618-917), Shenchuan
(Sacred River) Military Commission was established in Southwest China to
rule the areas of Diqing and Lijiang which were at the border between
the Tang Empire and Tubo Kingdom (Tibet). A military commission
(government) was quite popular in the Tang Dynasty to take charge of the
political and military affairs at its frontiers. Tacheng Iron Bridge
(Shenchuan Iron Bridge) was built over the Jinsha River (the Yangtze) in
the 7th century to serve military purposes at that time. As time went
by, the bridge did not exist but we can still find its remains on the
riverbanks.
