Huize, A Historic Copper City
Located
in the northwest of Qujing Municipality, Huize has the reputation
of “the No.1 Transportation City and the Copper City in South China”.
Due to the prosperous bronze industry, 108 relics of guild halls, temples
and ancestral halls have been reserved in Huize to form the famous “guild
culture”. Besides, various distinctive residences and streets are pervasive
in the town. The guild-hall architectural complex has represented the
industrial and commercial cultures of the day when Yunnan’s copper
metallurgy witnessed unprecedented prosperity, and thus provided
precious materials for studying the architectural arts and copper-merchant
cultures of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
