Nujiang, A Melting Pot Of Beliefs
Nujiang is inhabited by Nu, Tibetan,
Dulong, Lisu, Naxi and other groups
who respectively believe in
primitive religions, Lamaism, Catholicism,
and Christianity etc., all
co-existing in harmony. It is unique that each
person believes in
his/her own religion in some families. Nature worship
is the common
characteristic of Lisu and Nu. But Nu people have more
complicated
religions because they worship primitive religions, and
share the
influence of Tibetan Buddhism, Christianity and Catholicism.
Churches
and religious service have been retained in most areas.
Their four-part
harmony choir is based on the authentic multi-parts
chorus of Lisu,
featuring the alien Christian culture and without
accompaniment.
